CHRONICLER OF FRENCH NOBILITY
A contemporary French historian and writer, Evelyne Lever specialises in the monarchy of France in the 18th century.
A former researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Evelyne has published numerous essays and biographies, including Louis XVI (Fayard 1985), Louis XVIII (Fayard 1988), Philippe Égalité (Fayard 1996), Madame de Pompadour (Perrin 2000), Le Chevalier d'Éon (with Maurice Lever, Fayard 2009) and The Love Dictionary of Queens (Plon 2017).
An expert on the life of Marie-Antoinette, Evelyne has authored a number of works on the subject, including Marie-Antoinette, Journal d’une Reine, (Laffont, 2002), L’Affaire du Collier (Fayard 2004), C’était Marie-Antoinette (Fayard 2006) and her latest publication, Le grand amour de Marie-Antoinette (Tallandier 2020).
In 2013, Evelyne received the Madeleine Laurain-Portemer Grand Prize for History from the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, part of the prestigious Institut de France.
Evelyne is a frequent collaborator on radio and television. She worked as a historian on Secrets d'Histoire, a series of feature-length historical documentaries presented by the journalist and nobility specialist Stéphane Bern.
